Unbroken and True
Five million words, many written in a demanding code, Ann knew that it was time to lock them away. The old house held many secrets, but her’s would damage the family most. The exciting life that Jack lived was known to few, and in this part of the world her sexual activity was scandal in the extreme. Ann or as her true friends called her Jack, wrapped her diaries then placed them behind the oak panelling. It was time to cross oceans, to experience freedom, to fly free. Unfortunately it was no longer possible at Shibden Hall.
I love the idea of coded diaries. And of her secret. Well told, Michael.
Thank you Neil, I did struggle with the picture this week,
Such an interesting take on the prompt. A shame that Jack/Ann can’t live their true self at home.
I struggled with the prompt this week, until Ann Lister and Shibden Hall gave me inspiration
Dear Michael,
I’ve heard somewhere that people who live double lives live half as long. Nicely done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you Rochelle… Ann Lister lived for 49 years, but I think that she packed a lot into those years
Well worth the struggle Michael. Time to leave the past behind and start anew.
Thank you Keith… Ann Lister packed a lot into her 49 years of life
Thank you for the introduction to an important figure in LGBTQIA+ history.
And a fascinating character too
Interesting take on the prompt. I like the metaphor in the story.
