Treasure
If he was to travel three thousand years into the past and release his soul, he would need the book of religious spells. Then he thought of Nimueh and her cave. A new trap would have to be set to keep Nimueh busy. Then if he followed the link into the past, his soul could be set free.
Well come stranger. What is it that you desire. The secret of the book on the stone. Is it yours to give. Yes but it can be used for good or evil. Why should I give it to you? Merlin.
Nimueh or Nimue = scorceress.
Dear Michael,
I suspect this picture will conjure quite a few magic book stories. I love the reveal at the end of yours. Well done.

Thank you Rochelle, I struggled with this prompt, until I conjured up Merlin trapped under the stone
nice take on the prompt. Merlin and magic!
Thank you, I thinking about the stone, then magic arrived.
You managed it well.
Fab Michael! Really enjoyed your take on the prompt!

Thank you, o thank you.
makes me wonder just how to interpret that books etchings. Nicely done.
Thank you, I felt some of the illustrations looks quite religious
I love the idea of Merlin wanting to free his soul, but did you mean ‘welcome stranger?’..if not great job π
I like this very much.
Thank you Mike
Nicely done.
I love the stories of Merlin and Arthur from all time periods, so I got chills when I read your last word! Ah! I want to know more! lol Great job!
Thank you. I will have to see what can be done, as I also relish the realm of Merlin and Arthur. So I am a little disappointed as this post for me had faults.
Great take on the prompt. I’m a sucker for Arthurian legend. I wonder whose soul is at stake?
Thank you Carol. Sadly this post had its faults. When I saw the book on the stone, it led me to think of Merlin with his soul trapped under the stone by a spell from Nimueh. I twice reworked the tale, but now I see some faults. However once I have publish a piece of work I do not like to change anything. As I believe in learning from my mistakes.
It’s rare that I post a piece and someone, somewhere, doesn’t point out a typo. Writing is all about improving as you go on. As long as your learning, you’re doing it right.
Thank you Carol, I do get upset over the mistakes that I make when writing. Sadly this goes right back to events during my school days. We are made as we are made. Mike

Well come indeed! Most enjoyable, Michael!
I just thought of the connection to the illustrations in the book to the gravesites in Knowth, England. Indeed, travelling 3000 years into the past to release one’s soul. Or maybe realise our soul history.
Yes there is an interesting link to Mesolithic stone art including Knowth in Ireland. Stone Age art fascinates me.
What a creative take on the prompt! Well-done!
Thank you, o thank you. Mike
My pleasure! π
The book certainly inspired thoughts of magic in many of us. I especially enjoyed this one for the inclusion of Merlin. βΊ
In the beginning I was looking for a unusually girls name and Nimueh arrived. She told the story for me, and a second story called Used Magic followed. Thank you, Mike
What a great idea, to send Merlin through time. I can see a cave in that picture. π
