One dark night in the garden
Owl wondered what slugs tasted like as he watched a young hedgehog patrolling a garden. Owl was quite a thoughtful individual. He often found himself thinking. Earlier he had watched a collie tugging a elderly man forward. Owl found himself wondering about the relationship between humans and dogs. Why did dogs sometimes place their nose on the ground. Why humans need torches. Owl had so many questions. But the one that troubled him most was how long he’d have to wait for supper. Yes owl was wondering what young hedgehogs tasted like.
To see the light of day, is to miss the darkness of the night. Mike
The makings of a children’s bedtime story. Lovely.
Thank you Iain, I agree, this short story is very much like the stories that I came up for my children at bedtime..
Owl is in for a pricky surprise. Hedgehogs have to be peeled
I agree owl has a lot to learn yet. But then he is just a youngster
Neat wee tale, Michael
That will do fine for me, thank you sir
Owl might be better concentrating on the slugs, or at best a field mouse. The hedgehog isn’t going to work out, I fear.
That is exactly what hedgehog thought, but mouse is unhappy to know that.
Dear Mike,
Owl has high aspirations for sure. Cute story.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Owl always has lofty ambitions, I expect that it comes from perching high up in the trees.
Tastes like chicken. Nice stream of consciousness for the owl.
As a child I saw gypsy’s covering hedgehogs in mud then baking them. Ps Hedgehog says he does not want to taste like chicken, as it would be dangerous to his health.
It seems owl was a patient old hoot. Nicely done.
Owl thanks you, but says that he is only a youngster.
spiky I’d imagine, lovely story
I regularly move hedgehogs to safer locations, and have to agree, they are rather spiky.
I guess, Owl is about to find out. 🙂
I’ve got a feeling the hedgehog will have the last laugh!
Here’s mine!
I believe that you may be right. Thanks Keith
Nice story Michael.
Thank you Trish
Perhaps a little too much realism just before bedtime?
But owl says that he had just got up.
He’s got high hopes, but, hey, an owl’s got to eat too! A charming story, Michael. 🙂
So glad you like this story
A magical tale – just lovely.
Lovely to read your comment. Thank you so much, Mike
Darn it, Neil’s first sentence was exactly what I was going to say, to the word! Maybe Owl would be better off with the slugs.
Owl is worried, as he thinks that you and Neil might be moving in on his feeding territory
A delightful and whimsy story. Nicely done.
I appreciate this comment, thank you.
I suspect Owl will try eating Hedgehog only once. Cut little rascals are covered with prickly spines :). Loved your whimsical story, Michael.
Thank you Linda…I really move hedgehogs of roads to safety, they are certainly spikey.
