Limited Lock Down
Why did you lock me in, why do you put me behind bars, should I not be free? Free to wander, to live my life like you, to make my own decisions, for good or bad. To spend more time with my family. To follow the seasons, to live my dream. Would you not feel lost, feel frightened if you lived my present life? Everything preordained, dictated by you who do not even seem to care.
I wish to live, to roam, to taste the air, to hear bird song, to taste life, to love, to cry – yes at least I can do that. You smile but I see the gun, will it point my way, am I to die before my time?
Beautifully written!
That is so kind. Thank you.
Well done giving us a glimpse of what the animal is thinking and feeling. Heartbreaking, but well done Michael.
Thank you Jade, This story had been waiting for the right prompt, to get out. I feel a lot of concerns around the direct farming has taken over the last fifty years. But realise that there are no easy answers.
You conveyed the angst of all who are behind bars, physically, emotionally and mentally.
Thank you Neel, that was indeed part of my desire with this prompt picture.
It perfectly captures the spirit of the picture. Beautiful!
Thank you Rena, I really appreciate this feedback.
nice one ! and so we shall open the gates 🙂
I wish it was so simple, but realise that it is not. However I do feel that some modern western farming methods are very out of kilter with human decency and the natural order. I am grateful for your feed back
So sad! I feel sorry for the animals that are penned up! Great story, Mike!
I prefer free-range beef myself.
Nicely done. I liked how the voice could easily apply to the calf in the prompt or to a human being in any number of situations, including mentally.
So sad! Beautifully written, Michael. KL <3
Thank you so much, KL
The voice, a plaintive plea for help, so powerful. <3
A sad story for the calf and I like the way you’ve told it through his POV. Well expressed.
Thank you so much, I often feel sad when I see how animals are treated. This prompt drew out a little bit of me.
Hi, I’m majesticgoldenrose, and I am glad you liked my prompt. Great post, btw!
Thank you Kate.
That description is so real, and painful
That is a very kind and helpful comment. Feed back really helps me to see how a story feels to someone who reads it. Thank you.
Hi, I’m majesticgoldenrose, and I am glad you liked my prompt. Great post, btw! I love how emotional and direct it is, sort of unguarded. Fantastic!
Writing and reading, are two great past times. Thank you for commenting.
Why do we have to keep animals in bars and cages? When humans are the one doing actual damage.. to the nature,to fellow human beings. I feel sad for animals. Great take on the prompt.
Thank you, Vaidehi. I wish that I knew the answer,
This is so sad, beautifully written. Through your words, I felt for the poor animal.
It is valuable to know how a story impacted on readers, thank you.
Loved this Michael. The line “Am I to die before my time?” really caught my attention. I think even animals know when death is coming, this calf/cow in particular. It’s sad because you very much want them all to roam free but then there is the matter of ‘Beef’ and I am no vegetarian lol.
I to am not a vegetarian, but modern farming methods concern me greatly.
Yeah I would agree.
This is sad! I actually do wonder what we would hear if we understood animal language.
I have often wondered that to.
