Dear Brother
I have arrived. The bishop had his way. The congregation here are not happy. They are a free church and had the power to appoint their own Vicar. The last incumbent here, was hoisted out of the pulpit and placed facing backwards on a donkey, then driven out of the town. I am tempted to lecture them using St. Francis of Assisi words, it is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching. They will need a mule for me. So brother pray for the mule when I walk into church tomorrow.
Dear Michael,
St. Francis was a wise man. Love this story.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you Rochelle,
All will be well for the one who is wise.
Intelligent vicar. Hope they have the good sense & intelligence to recognize.
Thank you Anita, the congregation like their new Vicar,
Well done. I enjoy epistolary writing.
Thank you Bill, I had allowed myself to drift, I try to write more epistolary based flash.
Wonderful, great quote.
Thank you Ain, the credit all belongs to St. Francis
Good one, Michael. Sad that a place for unity becomes a hotbed of cliquishness and alienation.
I am pleased to say that things are much improved, the new Vicar suits the congregation
Well, at least this one knows who and what he is–and isn’t. I suspect his congregation will be impossible to please.
Linda, fortunately his new congregation have taken to their new Vicar
If a donkey won’t do for him, I imagine he must be a man of generous proportions. And, as such. he seems well adapted to weather a little chastisement. The bishop chose well
The bishop got it right this time, the Vicar suits his new congregation
There’s no doubt in my mind the congregation has met its match this time.
pax,
dora
You are right Dora, but it will take time for the congregation to realise that.
Great story, Michael. Like the Francis of Assisi quote.
I was pleased to be able to use the quote
This was wonderfully written, Michael.
I am blushing, thank you so Dale
Probably the best work of yours that I’ve read, Michael. Very well done.
Over the last few weeks, I have felt quite disappointed with some of my attempts at flash, almost to the point of giving up. Sandra you have made my day, thank you so much. Mike
At least your letter writer knows/understands what he is “walking into.” Hope he doesn’t “step in it,” along the way. Well done. The epistolary format really fits the story/image.
Thank you Lorraine, I had decided to write in the form of a letter and the picture inspired me
I love this. I think he will do well here (I hope).
Connie, he did do well
Looks like he has the right attitude. Beautiful story. Is that your dog, Michael? I once had a Border Collie, too.
He is a elderly collie, and has a beautiful character. He would say that I am his human guardian
I sense they’ll soon realise the Bishop’s choice was as good as any they might have made themselves. Well done Michael.
Thank you Keith.
Superb story, Michael. I love the quote by St. Francis!
Thank you Brenda
Nicely written, Michael. I enjoyed the way it unfolded.
Stay Safe Isadora
Thank you Isadora
ah, here’s to the wisdom of saints and the patience of mules … 😉
Thank you Na’ama
