Encountering an illusion
High grass covered the valley as far as the eye could see, whilst sessile oaks covered the higher slopes. Storm knew what she saw was an illusion, created to deceive her. However she allowed herself to relax and appeared to absorb the view. It would do no harm to encourage the Force operatives to think that they had deceived her. Storm allowed herself a moment to settle. She could smell crushed flowers. As far as illusions went this one was top notch. Closing her eyes Storm built an image of the various tunnels that in reality where before her
What an interesting thought process to create that story from that image
The imagery is excellent here, Michael. How did you conceive this story from that image? Fascinating stuff.
Thank you Varad, the image challenged me, so I moved into a potential political future,
I can’t pretend to understand what is happening, but I love the image you created
Thank you sir, I saw politicians it the image, but moved my story far into the future. Your story ‘Window’ was just up my street, just as I Occasionally see windows. I tried to post a comment to say something along that line, but WordPress for some password reason is stopping me posting on quite a few individual site.
Dear Michael,
Lovely images. No wonder she’s allowing herself to enjoy them.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Great images. Sorta like the Holodeck.
Rather like a portable Holodeck that can be projected just about anywhere. ! Thank you for supplying a interesting image
What an intriguing take on the prompt. The windows do look more like screens than windows, don’t they? The idea that Storm’s experience is synthesised is very creepy! What would she see if the grass and oaks weren’t there, I wonder?
Thank you Penny, Storm often finds herself deep underground, I am beginning to see her like a female James Bond, but far in earth’s future.
Michael, I think this is rather brilliant 🙂
Thank you so much, sometimes the stories that arrive surprise me to
Do you have times when the story seems to take you in an entirely different direction than you planned? Like someone else is doing the typing 🙂
Absolutely… When writing fiction there are so many options, having such a choice is great. However I do struggle to give good feedback so I appreciate your comment.
OH! Interesting perspective, this!
Thank you so much Na’ama
My pleasure! 🙂
You did this well, Michael. Good idea.
Thank you Sandra
Wonderful SciFi. I can see a day….
Thank you so much, perhaps the future is unknown, but I enjoy challenging myself to think about it. I certainly hope that it turns out better than I currently write
Storm is a great character. Strong and clever. I see it as fantasy, but could be SF as well.
Thank you so much Gabriele. I do enjoy writing both fantasy and SF, and so tend to blur the boundaries
Quite the view on the photo – I really enjoyed it!
My take on this week’s challenge: https://dbmcnicol.com/friday-fictioneers-declaration/
In writing fiction there are so many options, to have such a choice is great. At the present I struggle to give good feedback so I appreciate your comment.
A thinking storm knows where to attack, when and how. Dangerous! Is it driven by artificial intelligence against an enemy nation?
Artificial intelligence it seems is certainly involved. In writing fiction there are so many options, to have such a choice is great. At the present I struggle to give good feedback so I appreciate your comment.
A enjoyable clever story, Michael! Storm is an intriguing character.
In writing fiction there are so many options, to have such a choice is great. As I struggle to give good feedback so I very much appreciate your comment.
Really imaginative stuff, i wouldn’t in a million years conceived this one!
It is very kind of you to say so. However there are many areas like romance or crime stories, where I just can’t write anything remotely decent. In writing fiction there are so many options, have such a choice is great. I also do struggle to give good feedback so I very much appreciate your comment.
No worries, credit where credit is due. We all have our specialities that much is plain to see!
This was a very clever way to conceive a story… I think we need people like Storm
I do struggle to give feedback so I really appreciate your comment. Storm is becoming a favourite and fascinating character for me. I need to think deeper how I develop her.
It makes me wonder what is going on that and image of grass and trees is a deception. Interesting world
Thank you Jo
Yes, I really like your story, although I agree with another reader that I’m not sure how you arrived at it, from the photo. I am very eager to know what happens next, so it’s clearly a success.
I am glad you liked the story, On the rare occasions that I return to using my camera I look through the view finder hoping and looking to create an illusion. This week the photo prompt gave me that sense of looking at a created and false view.
Imaginative and fascinating take on the prompt. Your story makes me think of the concept of Maya: the world as illusion.
Thank you Magarisa, I enjoyed researching the Maya style of creating records following your comment. Looking at archaic or bygone forms of recording languages in a interest of mine.
Good sci-fi, Michael. She sounds experienced in this type of warfare. I hope she makes it out of the grasp of the enemies. 🙂 — Suzanne
Me to, or the plans I have for her future will be untold.
Love this. It almost has the feel of an X-Men story.
Thank you Sascha, I have not seen the X men films, but I Storm is honoured to be linked to X men, I think…
I think so. They are certainly creative!
