Deep Fractures
With the scream vibrating around the room Rosie knew what was coming. You did not need to be Einstein to recognise the sound of incoming shells. As Rosie dived under the dining room table, she wondered if her great grandmother’s glass bowl would survive. In it Rosie had first observed the refraction of red light from earths decaying sun.
As humanity continued on its quest to hasten the planets demise, Rosie had been working on the link between white and black holes. Today she had finally worked out how to revive the sun. As the bowl shattered so did Rosie’s dream.
I liked the way you showed us that Rosie died
Thank you Neil
Excellent descriptions and metaphors. A great read.
Thank you so much
I love the descriptions in this. Just one thing – you have put ‘finially’ and I think you mean ‘finally.’ Otherwise this was a lovely read.
Thank you Claire, appreciated
Dear Michael,
I like the way you used the bowl as a metaphor for the earth’s and Rosie’s demise. Sad but nicely done.

Rochelle
Thank you so much Rochelle,
Ah, poor Rosie. Fascinating look into what I hope is a fictional future.
I hope so also,
Tragic story of an all-too-likely future world – I don’t mean the sun going out, but conflict spiralling out of control.
Thank you so much Penny
Perfect timing from the human race again… Great piece Michael.
Thank you so much Iain
Great twist to the photo prompt, Michael. So much said in 100 words…
Isadora
Thank you Isadora,
I like how you used the bowl refracting light as a starting point for your story. There is so much going on here – the action and shells and Rosie diving. Pity she didn’t make it.
Thank you Sarah,
“As humanity continued on its quest to hasten the planets demise”

Thank you so much.
