Observed in Leeds
High can I go, but I cannot escape.
A multitude of people move towards their destinations.
So why can I not reach mine. What is it that holds me back.
Frustration envelopes me, as I try ever harder to escape.
I cannot escape the cacophony of sound.
Feet clattering on marble floors.
Fingers rattling keys.
I look around in horror as the giants of my world move.
What is it that denies my path.
I know its there, so smooth, so cold.
To see where I wish to go, but I am denied.
I hum the song of my ancestors.
A giant looks my way, if only he would break my bond.
But he cannot fly, he is trapped on the earths floor.
His kind may move fast, but can never react like me.
I hear a new sound, the swish of a cord.
A pulley groans, then reluctantly turns.
I feel movement and hang on tight.
Cool air rushes past me, as I plan my escape.
My wings beat, my heart flutters as I lift off.
Make my escape.
Poor fly. It seems he’s found an escape route. Good writing, Michael. š — Suzanne
Thank you Suzanne, it is strange that whenever I visit Leeds I find myself writing a story. I first saw this fly and imaged his story in the summer of 2016 !
I like that. At least he made his escape. Just. The fly’s perspective is indeed a good one.
Thank you for your find comment.
Not all flies contain disease and some make good bird food –
OK I’m glad this one escaped, but I am still not fond of his kin.
Nature is nature, but I know what you mean. Thank you for your feedback
