Pressing Sam
As the sun faded Meg collected her specimens and carried them to her workshop. Carefully she arranged them between layers of tissue, them placed piles of books over them.
Standing back she scanned the crowed walls of her studio, its floral decorations brightened her mood. That was until she thought about Sam. If only she had pressed him when they first met. What colour he had then. Now all he could do was demand, where’s my supper, my slippers, the remote. He was not even worth pressing now. Was he? As she looked at the rickety garage wall she wondered.
Footnote: This was the original planned story for this weeks photo prompt. My earlier posting rather took over!
I love this, not least because of its darkness, but also not least because you focussed on what was UNDER the books
Thank you Neil. The picture offered me so much to write about. I love this feature about prompts and flash fiction.
Dear Michael,
I felt for Megan and loved the idea of pressing him so he stayed the same. None of us do, do we? Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you Rochelle, I do love where the prompts take me.
Haha. When I was reading the footnote to your other story, I was wondering briefly about the pressed flowers. Now I know. I love it, especially the humour in it.
I am not good with humour, so your comment double pleases me. Thank you.
An amusing but kind of sad take on the prompt. It’s such a pity that people lose their colour and love often turns so sour and focused on the mundane. Meg certainly needs to do something radical to get Sam’s attention and stop him taking her for granted.
You are so right, life mundane events often overpower people, forcing their spirit and love to retreat.
This is so sad. Doesn’t she realize that she too is no longer the same.
Now there’s a thought, I guess that she did not realise she has also changed. Often change happens so slowly, that we do not see it in ourselves.
I think she might be about to deliver a crushing blow. Good one.
That is my belief also, but the story may develope otherwise due to a comment made by a fellow writer [Life Lessions of a Dog Lover]
Dark thoughts brooding and a great analogy between the colour of youth and fresh flowers. Great take well executed
This story has been penned so well! How people change with time! A great take on the FF prompt.
So full of emotions – loving memory and a wretched present. Well told.
Thank you Sarah Ann, your comment and others recieved have enabled me to consider a brighter outcome.
