Light and Shadow

The view was fabulous, Jenny had risen early, enjoyed a continental breakfast then taken a leisurely stroll around the hotels gardens. Tuscany was beautiful at this time of the year, the gentle overnight rain had highlighted colours and created a lovely perfume. She left Julie sleeping and took paints and an easel to her favourite view. She was not going to let any clouds on the horizon spoil this day. Julie could leave if that was her desire. Relationships and it seems love did come and go, but as an artist Jenny painted for posterity. She now knew that painting was her real passion.

  1. Dear Michael,

This one’s a good story on more than one level. As others have said, we have an idea of what’s transpired between Julie and Jenny. I love it that Jenny’s an artist and has realized her true calling. Well done.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

      1. I’ve been known to run with a metaphor every now and again, so no need for apologies. Especially when I, too, believe that creating a window one is not planning to use would be a waste of time.

  2. Hopefully their fight is as temporary as the cloud, and the sun will shine for both of them again. If not, at least Jenny knows who she is and what she wants, which may help her choose a partner more wisely in the future.

  3. Sounds like something I would want to do and have done some. I imagined these girls to actually be twin sisters who have vast, differing points of view, creates more tension. That’s how I saw it. A very compact story, Mike. Nice job.

  4. There’s something special about those short moments when one leaves the other sleeping and has time to order her thoughts. In Tuscany with the light just reviving the colours of the day, what better time?
