A Christmas Gift
Christmas Greeting to all who read my various attempts at story telling.
Josephine saw Tommy heading towards a seat at the back of the diner, she knew what his order would be, a mug of coffee, four eggs sunny side up and a stack of fries. He had been coming in the diner for two years. But still he had not asked her out. There was shy and there was shy, but she knew what his eyes said. Today she had hung a sprig of mistletoe over his favourite seat, but he failed to look up.
As a sink hole opened up below the Diner she fell into his arms, they kissed and she dreamed of children whilst he dreamed of food.
A sinkhole? You got a sinkhole into a 100-word story? Well done
It was such a strange thing to put in the story, thank you for reading and commenting. Mike
Does that count as a happy ending or not? I guess it depends on if they survive falling into a sink hole…
I am not sure that they are a good match- but if anyone can make things work it is Josephine. Mike
Lol, ending was a bit unexpected.
It certainly threw them together so to speak.
Dear Michael,
I don’t think this is a man who will ever wake up and smell the proverbial coffee. On the other hand, if she’s a good cook…At least she got her kiss. Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you Rochelle, I have corrected my spelling of [diner]
Question: Were you trying to spell “dinner” or “diner?” These spell-check things computers have drive me crazy sometimes.
As to the story itself, ah, what a man! What a woman! The fantasy of probably every waitress and customer. Nice work, Mike!
You have a Merry Christmas! 🙂
Thank you so much. Sadly I cannot blame the spell checker – for spelling never was my strong point.
Oh well … think of all the fun you had.
Thats so true. Greetings from Mike
I suppose they were kind of flung together in the end. Certainly nothing else was going to do the job. Nice one.
Thank you Sandra, they were certainly flung together.
The way to a man’s heart… but I guess it can be just food and she had hoped in vain.
She is very patient, and will I am sure teach him how to give love. Seasonal greetings to you.
He sounds like a real romantic 🙂
Smiling at your comment. Thank you, Mike
Was this inspired by the news of a sinkhole opening up in Japan recently? Nice combining the current with the romance!
Thank you Spicedmullings, We have had several sink holes in Yorkshire recently which came to mind when I saw the photo,Mike
We’ve had a few sink holes open up in Australia. Scary things.
This guy needs to wake up and smell the roses if he ever makes it out of the sink hole, or perhaps he’s interested in someone else. Come sto the diner to see a different waitress.
xx Rowena
Greetings Rowena. I think that this waitress will sort him out,
Flung together but sadly not on the same wavelength…
That is true, but her love may change him.
I’m thinking it just seems like a sinkhole. Some guys are like that. They don’t get excited about much. He’d probably make a good husband if she didn’t expect to change him. Good writing, Mike. Happy Holidays and New Year 2017. Good picture. 🙂 — Suzanne
Greeting Suzanne, I agree given time he is going to make her a good husband. I am looking forward to reading your stories in the comming year.
