Seven plus One
If Cowpe is on your pathway, then seven plus one makes sense. The farm was the last property before reaching the moors. From here on mules and donkey’s were the only way to transport goods. Which meant stopping at the farm, for refreshments and hiring beasts, with one of the seven accompanying the animals. That was how I came to be acquainted with this family of poets. I would become a regular visitor. Well worn granite flagstones, set two feet below ground level. A roaring fire in winter, and ice cold water on hot summer days. Now Beauty and the Beast have become my companions… … …
[ I am sorry that I made only a few comments last week… I was off colour with a winter cold ]
Poetry seems to pay well, I suppose their needs are few: quils and parchment
If only in those days, I knew how to use a quill. Let alone been able to read parchments… Compliments of the season to you Neil
Interesting with fairy-tale characters.
At least you have Beauty for company 🙂
I fear that my muse is determined to explore the beast more. I may well need the calming influence of beauty… compliments of the season to you Anita
Anita, with my limited computer skills, I was unable to comment on your disappearance case…. But James T Kirk said that they did not beam her up…
Dear Michael,
Sounds like an interesting place to be. Nicely done. The cold has been off-putting here, too. I’ve found myself bundling up with hot drinks to lose myself in old movies. 😉 Happy New Year.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you Rochelle, truly winter colds are a nuisance, I have to admit to also making great use of good coffee and old movies
A fairy tale scene you’ve set, fertile ground for more stories 🙂
I beware right… my muse is already pushing me to put pen to paper. Compliments of the season to you Linda
I find long excursions walking in the country very satisfying. Your story brings home to me how pleasing I find those treks.
Walking is a great pass time,… compliments of the season to you
That sounds like an interesting and inspirational place. I had to look up Cowpe though. 🙂
My muse is fighting hard to encourage me to write more about the Rossendale moors above Cowpe. Compliments of the season to you
I’m not sure my original message sent…
I enjoyed the old feel. Life was much slower back then.
Hope you’re feeling better.
Thank you Tannille, yes slower but for me more exciting
I like this.
Thank you chioma, the time I spent in the Rossendale valley is remembered with great fondness
An interesting story, Michael. 🙂
Thank you Bill, the time I spent in Rossendale has many happy memories

Thank you Plaridel, the photo is taken heading into Lancashire from Haworth. It is slightly less wild than Haworth but even more remote. I drive past Haworth most weeks,
There is comfort in routine and it feels like he’s found a second home there.
Thank you Jade, having a welcoming home is always important,
Lovely scene setting Michael, hope you are feeling better and a happy new year 🙂
Thank you so much Angela
That sounds like the ideal setting for writing.
Indeed it was,… compliments of the season to you.
You’ve set the scene for a wonderful place. Slow and quiet living.
Thank you Nadia, it was and still is a popular area,
Seven poets in one household – bliss for the visitor!
Very true, Liz
Lovely! And so sorry you were under the weather – right there with you, was felled by the flu a little bit ago.
Hope that you are now well, glad that you enjoyed the story
Nice. I can see the walk to the farm and the animals.
Thank you…I have a passion for the countryside and it’s creatures.
Nice one, Michael. I like the idea of walking on the moors. And it sounds like you had just what you needed in the winter and in the summer. I can understand why you became a regular visitor. Am happy that you’re better now.
Happy New Year 🙂
Thank you so much. Yes walking has always been important to me,
