Men and a Shed
Are periods of greatness engineered, or are they random.
Well in a barn that I know so well, where computers are only allowed as transient visitors. In this barn bookcases are constructed as solid as rock. You may research a RAF airfield at Mingaladon or the Hindenburg airship. In this stronghold the smell of ancient leather bindings and handmade paper carry you back in time, to the time of your research. Old Windsor leather chairs rest around a glowing pot boiler, it’s hearth littered with coke. A kettle just on the boil. The budding author in me has never known better.
A hearth littered with coke would do wonders for creativity
Ha ha, I loved that
Perfect writers retreat.
Indeed it would be, if only it was available to us
Wonderfully atmopsheric, Michael
Thank you Lynn, I am in need of such a writers retreat
I could smell the old books. Lovely.
Thank you Iain, I was hoping for the smell to come over.
Dear Michael,
Nothing brings back memories like scents. Nicely done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you Rochelle,
What a perfect writer’s retreat. You set the atmosphere beautifully 🙂
Thank you so much Linda
What a lovely view inside that shed and what a retreat it would be surrounded by books, a small toasty stove and some tea. Would make a great painting.
I have an old black kettle on the boil, just ready for a nice cup of tea…
That sounds like the ideal spot for some research.
I agree, I do enjoy undertaking research
I want this place to be real for you, Michael. I hope it is! The ‘littered with coke’ line had me wheeling – which kind are we talking here??! Heating, energy or inspiration?
Sadly so far, only real in my mind. The coke is the old fashioned kind, black and smelling rather gaseous
That sounds like a wonderful place, I can almost smell it!
Me to.
A perfect retreat, nicely done!
So glad that you liked it
Nice to hear what you would like your perfect sanctuary to be. When time travel becomes reality, you can build such a sanctuary for yourself.
I can not wait…
Perfect!
It certainly could be so…
Nice take on the prompt, Michael. Sounds like the perfect kind of retreat for anyone, especially a writer.
Many of us need a place of quiet at some point
