Tantalising Memories
Up early to watch the fair people packing up their rides, I am wanted to travel with them. Such a riot of colour. Dodgems and the Walzer are fun. But the Helter Sekter stood proud by my window, and taking the money is the most beautiful girl. Pale as a diamond, with raven black hair. I have climbed to the top of the ride and ridden down so many times that my piggy bank is empty. Mum says young love is alright, but she locked me in my attic bedroom. It seems that dreams are alright, but love is not.
Harsh parenting – I’m not sure it will teach him the right lesson in the long run! Good story.
Parenting, is always a dilemma
Love may be alright too. But I don’t think Mum wants him acting on it
She certainly did not, but then the fair returns next year
Oh poor fellow! True love always finds a way.
He is so young, far to young. Love can hurt
Dear Michael,
Poor kid. Sounds like mum keeps him on a very short leash.
Shalom,
Rochelle
He is so young, he needs a short leash, but not for long
I feel like there is another side to this story…
That is so true, well spotted
Running away with the fair. How we all dreamed of it. Thankfully there were people to stop us. Lovely, Michael.
Fairgrounds are made for dreaming, thank you Sandra
Maybe his mother knows best. After-all, his piggy bank was empty and he wanted to run away with the fair. There are a lot of layers to this story. Nicely done!
He should wait till the fair returns, but perhaps he will jump on his bike tomorrow
Well, my word! That seems to be an extreme reaction to a teenage crush–unless, maybe, Mum has dealt with his out-of-control hormones once too often 🙂
I guess that young hormones have caused quite a few younger s to run away with the fair
Great story. I love “pale as a diamond”. The girl was probably bottle-blonde with acne, but to the lad she was pure and beautiful
Bottle blonde never
Poor kid will probably end up being a writer 😉 Good storytelling, Michael.
He did, how did you guess.
The tighter the leash, the more the kids want to break free. I’m sure she could have found a better solution.
The tighter the leash is true, parenting is a real skill. Stay well
Probably for the best. Good job it was an attic room or he’d be out!
They lived in a large pre victorian house, he climbed out on to a flat roof, but there was no way down.
I’m thinking Mum’s worried he might just stow away in a truck and go with them
Absolutely
he may still too young to fall in love. mum is just being protective.
Very true
I love the description of the girl! An exotic creature. No wonder he’s captivated.
Fairgrounds can be exotic, in many ways.
So sorry to hear about your wife’s mother. Stay safe in these awful times.
Thank you so much Miranda
Ah, I think Mama has some valid worries … Then again … helicopter parenting may also be at hand …
That is very true, Na’ama
