If he was to travel three thousand years into the past and release his soul, he would need the book of religious spells. Then he thought of Nimueh and her cave. A new trap would have to be set to keep Nimueh busy. Then if he followed the link into the past, his soul could be set free.
Well come stranger. What is it that you desire. The secret of the book on the stone. Is it yours to give. Yes but it can be used for good or evil. Why should I give it to you? Merlin.

Thank you Carol. Sadly this post had its faults. When I saw the book on the stone, it led me to think of Merlin with his soul trapped under the stone by a spell from Nimueh. I twice reworked the tale, but now I see some faults. However once I have publish a piece of work I do not like to change anything. As I believe in learning from my mistakes.
It’s rare that I post a piece and someone, somewhere, doesn’t point out a typo. Writing is all about improving as you go on. As long as your learning, you’re doing it right.

I just thought of the connection to the illustrations in the book to the gravesites in Knowth, England. Indeed, travelling 3000 years into the past to release one’s soul. Or maybe realise our soul history.
Yes there is an interesting link to Mesolithic stone art including Knowth in Ireland. Stone Age art fascinates me.

The book certainly inspired thoughts of magic in many of us. I especially enjoyed this one for the inclusion of Merlin. ☺
In the beginning I was looking for a unusually girls name and Nimueh arrived. She told the story for me, and a second story called Used Magic followed. Thank you, Mike
